Hvide Sande Harbor receives funding for new quay facility
It was a delightful email that arrived at the harbor in Hvide Sande on Sunday morning. It was from the Danish Transport Authority, which announced a grant of 8.6 million DKK for a new quay area from the Harbor Fund 2022.
The Ministry of Transport had received 28 project proposals totaling 176 million DKK for the Harbor Fund of 50 million DKK. ”We are therefore happy and proud that the Danish Transport Authority has chosen our project and granted the 8.6 million DKK for our new Quay Facilities”, says Harbor Director Poul Erik Jessen. ”It is completely in line with our Strategy 2025 that we must operate and develop the harbor for the benefit of our customers, where the new quay facility and adjacent areas create the framework for jobs and growth in Hvide Sande. We must constantly adjust the harbor’s resources and facilities to the opportunities that arise within our existing and new business areas”.
Hvide Sande Harbor is already in the process of clearing and preparing areas next to Vattenfall's new Offshore O&M center. The new Quay project, adjacent areas, and road constructions are to help connect the entire area, creating a flexible and dedicated Offshore base where Hvide Sande Harbor can match and handle the upcoming large energy projects in the North Sea.
It is expected that the State will tender an additional 3 Offshore Wind Farms during the spring of 2023. A tender of 3 x 1GW farms located just outside Hvide Sande Harbor. These wind farms are planned to be constructed by 2030, and Hvide Sande Harbor is therefore working purposefully towards The Area Allocation Plan which aims to support capacity and dynamics for developing the Offshore business area. The new quay facility is an important factor, and we are therefore very pleased that the support from the Danish Transport Authority is contributing to this development.
The Danish Transport Authority has emphasized in the allocation that the project meets the criteria of the Harbor Fund to address traffic and capacity challenges, as well as that Hvide Sande Harbor has already been chosen as an established service harbor for wind farms in the North Sea.
Facts:
In the Infrastructure Plan 2035, a Harbor Fund 2022 was agreed upon, where Danish Commercial Harbors could apply for grants of up to 50% of the project costs for example establishing quay facilities, breakwaters, road infrastructure at the harbor, and any land-based electric infrastructure.
There has been great interest in the Harbor Fund, and the parties behind the agreement have approved the allocation of a total of 49.5 million DKK to 10 projects. (The Danish Transport Authority reserves 0.5 million DKK for managing the fund)
The total project sum is approximately 109 million DKK including the harbors' own funding.
A total of 28 projects had applied for grants totaling 176.3 million DKK by the application deadline.
It is the Danish Transport Authority that administers the Harbor Fund.
